So last Thursday, I finally got two friends together to help me film my MASTERPIECE...
...granted, the idea changed again for the 1000000000th time. I decided to go for a thriller, where a girl is being held hostage in an empty garage where another person was murdered. My friend (Robyn) who played the hand-cuffed gal was awesome, since she's an experienced actress. Her portrayal of pure fear and terror was spot-on! My other friend (Julia) just had to lay dead there...
Before filming, I printed out the script I made (which I should've posted but oh well) and showed it to the two. We then went to the garage and blocked the scene and where the bulk would take place, as well as movements and whatnot. Once we knew what to do, I got my makeup game started. I gave Robyn a dirty, bloodied makeup: she had a black eye; blood on her face; dirt on her face, neck, and arms; and an bloody irritation on her wrist where she was being handcuffed. As for Julia, I went a bit more crazy: blood on almost her entire face, dirt and "oil" on her arms, etc. I put sticky fake blood on the ground too. We also found a cool machete that I also dirtied up with black blood, fake blood, and a little bit of water.
Throughout filming, I re-shot the same sequences at different angles, as it should be. We discovered what worked, what didn't work, what looked nice, what looked bad, all that good stuff. We also reworked some small things like dialogue, acting, and the ending. In the script, we had her break free. However, since Julia brought hardcore legitimate black handcuffs, breaking them/escaping from them was not an option. Our way around this was to find a way for Robyn to bring Julia's body closer to her (in the short, Julia has a prop essential to the story). When we finally wrapped up, we saw all our takes and noticed for two clips we left the camera going and forgot to stop recording!
I'm currently in the process of editing. It wont be hard at all, and I cant wait to see the final product :)
