REAL Estate.

We are now on Week #6 of my Blogging experience! I'd like to say I'm nearly halfway there? But anyways, little congrats to me.

Anyhoo, lets talk location.

You got a brilliant idea, fantastic script, phenomenal storyboards, actors, camera, props, you have EVERYTHING.... Now... where are you going to film?

Being a young filmmaker, especially one still in highschool, it is very restrictive when it comes to finding an ideal location. Teenagers are busy enough as it is, some may be able to conjure of transportation from either a parent, a friend, or themselves if they're lucky.

But where do they go?

I know how exciting it is to create a great story, but you HAVE to be realistic and keep in mind your restraints and limits. And this goes for all aspects of production, not just location. Its important that you're not biting off more than you can chew and that, with your limited resources, you can still create your vision to an extent.

I've had plenty of ideas, such as my post-apocalyptic short flim, that were immensely difficult to produce. How on Earth was I supposed to film the end of the world in a suburban area? Luckily, I was able to get around that little constraint with a few simple ideas. I simply filmed in nearly all black and white to symbolize the grayness of the world and how tainted it had become. Scattering a little trash throughout wide shots helped create a semi-pocalypse as well. Now did it look 100% accurate? OF COURSE NOT! In my vision, I saw piles of dust, rusted cars, blackened houses, the works of a major blockbuster. I'm totally kidding, I knew that wasn't even a possibility. I knew my production limits and discovered innovative ways around the problem.

So in conclusion, no matter what your story is, be sure the actual location is an easy-access area that the cast and crew will have little problem getting to. Now I'm not saying play it safe either by just filming in your house or on the street (unless your film needs exactly that), but still think outside the box to create a visually stimulating masterpiece.
