Writing is tough, I know.

Whether its a short story, a poem, a novel, an article, whatever... creating a work of fiction or nonfiction through a certain medium can be difficult.

Film in of itself is quite the medium for storytelling, but before you shoot your scenes and edit the compilation of shots into a beautiful video, you have to write a script first.

It isn't the most fun of time, with the format and knowing what to do and what not to do. You have to develop a story and NOW you have to follow guidelines and a format to do so???

Unfortunately, yes. BUT, the good news is: it's not as hard as it sounds. Writing a good, strong, cohesive script can be very rewarding. The purpose of the script is to tell the story in a visual outline, so whoever is taking part in a single scene (director, actors, camera, lighting, make-up, costume, set design, etc) can get clues and hints as to how it should be portrayed.

Here are a few sources that have helped me a bunch:

MLA:

- "How to Write a Screenplay." (with Examples). WikiHow, n.d. Web. 04 Feb. 2016.

- How to Write a Screenplay: Script Example & Screenwriting Tips." N.p., n.d. Web. 04 Feb. 2016.

- Column, Guest. "7 Ways Writing a Screenplay Is Different Than Writing a Novel." Writer's Digest. N.p., 27 Nov. 2012. Web.

Now if the format is killing you, there are certainly some software out there with all the presets you need and all you have to do is type. But that's lazy and no fun :)
